Q37:
If
we use VoIP Gateway under NAT Router, what is the TCP/IP port
number
required? Standard
VoIP port tcp 1720 is required for most broadband router. But
some of the NAT router is not enough to open tcp 1720 port for
Voice communicaiton.
In
such case, udp 30000 to udp 30100 port is required to open for
VoIP gateway.
To totally avoid VoIP gateways packets to be blocked by NAT
router, there are 2 solutions:
1.Install the VoIP gateway at the WAN side, setup with public IP
address for communication.
2.Use
NAT Routers DMZ function to make VoIP Gateway under DMZ device
for voice communication.

Q28:
We
use Cisco call manager v3.1 and have problem of "False answer
supervision"?
The
Cisco Call Manager v3.1 is a Gate Keeper and it works with our VoIP
Gateways.
There
is a known problem that is "False Answer Supervision" it
means that call manager don't know when the called party answer the
phone. It immediately starts to count the duration.
The
solution can be as follows:
There is different for FXO and FXS in response of the H.323 connect
signal.
FXS connect to Telephone set directly, it response connect signal
when user pick up phone. Then start to bill accounting. FXO connect
to PBX or PSTN system, it response connect signal when FXO detect
connected with PBX. So it is almost like you start to dial but start
to billing accounting.
The solution is only to set delay time of valid_call_timer of FXO
port. For example 30 seconds. It is not exactly as you want to
response connect signal when called partner pick up phone. But the
process almost closes its result, As:
1. When called party pick up phone within 30 seconds, it sends back
connect signal at that time,
meet the time to start billing.
2. If the called party not pick up phone within 30 seconds, it will
time out and disconnect the call,
without billing.
The command for this is:
set port <port> fxo valid_call_timer <value in msec>

Q27:
Does
the VoIP Gateway support Voice Detection?
Yes,
the VoIP Gateway supports Voice Detection. There are two commands
used to set Voice detection.
set
coding profile_id vad
This
command is used to enable/disable the Voice Activity Detector (VAD)
for a coding profile.
set
coding profile_id vad_thresh
This
command is used to set threshold level for the VAD for a coding
profile.
The
threshold Value in dBm, ranging from 20 to +10.

Q26:
Does
the VoIP Gateway support Polarity Reversal?
Yes,
the VoIP Gateway supports Polarity Reversal. The ITG incorporates
battery reversal detector on the FXO interface. After detecting
battery reversal signal on a FXO port for certain times, the ITG
shuts down the port. This command is used to specify the number of
times the battery reversal signal must be detected before the ITG
shutting down a FXO port. The command to set the count of polarity
Reversal count as follows:
set
port port fxo batt_rev_times count

Q25:
What is Gateway?
A
device that interconnects networks with different, incompatible
communication protocols. For example, IBM SNA and PC Windows is
using different protocols and need SNA Gateway for communication;
The public telephone service and Internet service is using different
protocol and also need VoIP Internet Telephone gateway for
communication.
|
Q24:
What is Internet telephone?
Internet
telephone is a revolutionary product that allows you to make
real-time, two-way conversations over the Internet. You can talk to
another Internet telephone users anywhere in the world for the cost
of a local call to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Internet
Telephony Service Provider (ITSP).

|
Q23:
What are the differences between Internet telephony and traditional
POTS telephone?
Internet
telephony follows an architecture that is obviously different from
that for POTS which provides a voice call only through the circuit
switched network. Internet Telephony utilizes packet
technology. These packets are sent out on the Internet. Each packet
is encoded with an address, and reaches its destination
independently. Packets are regrouped at the destination point, and
are converted back into regular voice over telephone lines. Internet
telephony allows much more information to be sent over Internet than
circuit-switched networks.
|
Q22:
How is the voice quality of Internet telephony Gateway?
It
is no more a puff for Internet telephone to provide toll-quality
voice service. To achieve this goal, most Internet telephony servers
use the industry standard and high quality voice coders including
G723.1, G729A and advanced voice compression/decompression
technology to deliver high quality Voice over IP (VoIP) services.
ITG Voice quality is determined primarily by three major factors,
delay, packet loss, and jitter. That is, the lower the delay, the
less the packet loss and the smaller the jitter, and the better the
voice quality. The low delay, packet loss and jitter simply require
sufficient Internet bandwidth between the originating and
destination gateways.
|
Q21:
What is Internet Telephony Gateway (ITG)?
The
Internet Telephony Gateway (ITG) is the linkage between PSTN and
Internet, is a cost-effective and highly reliable analog Voice over
IP (VoIP) Gateway that offers toll quality voice and real-time fax
data over IP networks. With its embedded architecture, the gateway
is ideal for VoIP applications associated with Remote Office and
Branch Office (ROBO) environments. With its built-in user-friendly
interface, the gateway may be installed easily and conveniently to
yield immediate cost savings. Depending on the model type, The
Internet Telephony Gateway supports multiple voice or Fax
communications simultaneously.

used (T.38 to T.30) are the same at the both end of ITGs, then it
works.
|
Q16:
Does ITG need another PC or Server to handle the call?
We
can use one ITG making calls to the other ITG directly, without
the need of any Gatekeeper to process the call control. Of course,
ITG also can be managed by a H323 Gatekeeper for call control
management.
|
Q15:
How can I call my customer who doesnt have ITG?
We
may call the customer by NetMeeting through ITG without changes. We
also may call through ITSP who can provide VoIP service to our ITG.

|
Q14:
What is bandwidth requirement of ITG?
The
bandwidth requirement is related to the coder used and overhead
associated with the IP packets. Our ITG support three kinds of voice
codec, G723.1 takes about 12 Kbps per channel, G729A/AB takes around
15 Kbps per channel, G711 takes about 100 Kbps per channel. T.38 fax
