Q05: Is there any Linux driver support for the 54Mbps Wireless Cardbus PC Card GL2454-01?

Free Linux driver for Atheros chipset based wireless LAN

The GL2454-01 and GL2454-VP is designed with Atheros chipset AR5212.
Atheros Communications announced the first 802.11b/g and multi-standards 802.11a/b/g chipset open source code for Linux and FreeBSD drivers, it is available to download from Internet.

Multi-band Atheros Driver for WiFi (MADWIFI): A Linux device driver for 802.11a/b/g universal NIC cards - either Cardbus, PCI, or miniPCI - that use Atheros chip sets (ar5210, ar5211, ar5212).

To download the drivers, please visit the following URL address: https://sourceforge.net/projects/madwifi/

To download FreeBSD driver, the following link is also available: http://www.freebsd.org/

Q04: What’s the LED function of the 54Mbps Wireless Cardbus PC Card?

The LED indicators are:
Power LED: The LED will be ON when the unit is powered up.
Wireless LAN LED: The LED will be ON indicates a WLAN connection; blinking indicates wireless activity.

Q03: What is the difference between 54Mbps and 11Mbps wireless products?

The 54Mbps is made possible by the new modulation method called OFDM, which is different from the current CCK modulation method for 11Mbps. The 54Mbps wireless products also operate in the 2.4GHz ISM band and they are backward compatible with 11Mbps wireless products.

Q02: Could I implement the driver/utility installations on another operating system?

Yes, you can. All the installation mentioned in the user’s manual could be implemented on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP and there will be no difference.

Q01: Does the 54Mbps Wireless Cardbus PC Card support 802.1x?

There are three essential components to the 802.1x infrastructure: (1) Supplicant, (2) Authenticator and (3) Server. The 802.1x security supports both MD5 and TLS Extensive Authentication Protocol (EAP).

The 54Mbps Cardbus PC Card support 802.1x client function as shown in the following figure.
